Kate Samphier is a Scottish contemporary textile designer dedicated to knitting.

In parallel to a bespoke design and consultancy service for yarn spinners and knitwear manufacturers, Kate specialises in the design and creation of high quality, knitted accessories for independent retailers, fashion houses and interior designers.

Her business prides itself on high quality design combined with traditional craft techniques and modern knit technology. Each collection embraces Scottish knitwear manufacture, challenging tradition with an eclectic use of colour, texture and pattern.

Featured in magazines such as Homes and Gardens, Red, The Sunday Times and other high profile publications; Kate's designs are for women with an eye for beauty and a quirky sense of style. Her clients include, Couverture, Nicole Farhi Home, The Cross, The Bluebird Store, Le Bon Marche in Paris and Bolina in Norway.

After completing a Master of Design at The Scottish College Of Textiles in Galashiels, Kate worked for International Woollen Spinners, Laidlaw & Fairgrieve for 5 years as a textile designer. During this time she began to create her own knitted accessories to illustrate the versitility of the company's product ranges at trade exhibitions such as Pitti Filati in Florence and Expofil in Paris.

There soon followed a series of freelance design projects and in Spring 2000, Kate set up her design studio and workshop. The following year her first collection, a contemporary mix of knitted accessories for women, babies and the home was launched
